Last year, in the year 2021, a day before Eid-ul-Adha, the news spread in the media, according to a young girl who was brutally murdered in Islamabad. This girl was Noor Muqaddam and the person who killed him was his lover Zahir Jafar.
The release of the short film Noor, based on this true story, was eagerly awaited as the promo of the film had attracted a lot of attention. The film has finally been released on the digital platform YouTube.
The murder of 27-year-old Noor Muqaddam during a seven-month court proceeding from a phone call received by Kohsar Police Station in Islamabad has become the focus of discussions in the country on crimes against women, their insecurity, and related issues. When the police reached the house of Zahir Jaffer, the accused was present on the spot while Noor Muqaddam had died. As the details of this brutal murder began to emerge through the initial police investigation, the serious fears of most the people began to come true.
One thing was clear from the beginning of the trial and that was that the case was to be discussed on social media as much as it was to be fought in court. Meanwhile, the trend of ‘Justice for Light’ was also running on social media in which consumers from all over the country were demanding justice but on the other hand, the character of the victim and the accusation against her continued. Accused Zahir Jaffer was finally sentenced to death in this case while fulfilling the requirements of justice.
The incident with Noor Muqaddam has been filmed in the form of a short film by Zammy’s Productions, an American film company, which has recently been released on YouTube.
Although the film, titled Noor, has nothing to do with the actual events, it has tried to keep it closer to the true story in a very good way.
Noor is produced by renowned playwright Abida Ahmed and written by Raza Akhtar. The film is directed by Aijaz Qureshi. The cast includes Sanwali Shah and Abdul Rauf Bhatta. The film can be viewed on Abida Ahmed’s official YouTube channel Zameez Entertainment.
