Music icon, Pankaj Udhas, has passed away at the age of 73

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of music legend Pankaj Udhas. The veteran ghazal singer, known for his iconic ghazals such as “Chitthi Ayi Hai” and “Chandi Jesa Rang,” passed away today after a prolonged illness. According to reports, he passed away at 11 am at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai.

Nayaab Udhas, the daughter of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas, shared on Instagram the sad news of his passing. She wrote, “With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that my father, Pankaj Udhas, passed away on February 26, 2024, after a prolonged illness.”

He rose to fame with his ghazal album “Aahat” in 1980 and continued to produce hits such as “Mukarar,” “Tarrannum,” and “Mehfil.” One of his most popular songs, “Chitthi Aayee Hai,” was featured in the film “Naam.” In recognition of his contributions to the industry, Udhas received numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri award in 2006. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 73.

In 1990, Pankaj Udhas collaborated with Lata Mangeshkar for the duet “Mahiya Teri Kasam” in the movie Ghayal, which became a huge hit. Additionally, he sang “Na Kajre Ki Dhar” with Sadhana Sargam for the movie Mohra in 1994, which was also a popular song. Udhas has also worked as a playback singer in various films like Saajan, Yeh Dillagi, Naam, and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee. In an older interview, he revealed that he initially wanted to become a doctor, but life had different plans for him.
