Pakistani blockbuster The Legend of Maula Jatt achieved a historic milestone with its grand premiere in Beijing on May 19, 2026, marking the first-ever Pakistani film to secure a release in China on a quota revenue-sharing basis.


The prestigious premiere was hosted at the Huaxia multiplex in Beijing under the patronage of Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi. The venue was transformed with immersive artwork and cinematic displays from the film, creating a vibrant atmosphere for distinguished guests from Pakistan and China’s film industries.

The event was attended by acclaimed filmmaker Bilal Lashari, international distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla, senior officials from the China Film Administration, China Film Group, Huaxia Film Development, and several leading executives from China’s film distribution sector.






In a landmark achievement for Pakistani cinema, The Legend of Maula Jatt is set to release across 1,000 screens throughout China starting May 21, 2026. The film will be distributed by Huaxia Distribution Company and China Film Distribution Company with the approval of China Film Group.




Speaking at the premiere, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi described the release as a significant cultural moment coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. He stated that the film provides Chinese audiences with a unique opportunity to experience the richness of Pakistani cinema while strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.






Director Bilal Lashari called the occasion “a profoundly emotional and proud moment” for the entire team behind the film. He said witnessing the movie premiere in Beijing and preparing for a nationwide Chinese release was “beyond our wildest dreams.”

International distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla described the quota revenue release as a “game-changer” for Pakistan’s film industry and praised the collaboration between Pakistani and Chinese authorities in making the historic release possible.





The release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in China is being viewed as a major step forward in Pakistan-China cultural cooperation and is expected to open new doors for future cinematic collaborations between the two countries.
