Lebanon has reported an increase in Israeli military activity even though a ceasefire agreement was announced.
Officials say thousands of air strikes and demolitions have kept happening across areas.
This shows that tensions in the region are growing and the humanitarian situation is getting worse.
Lebanon’s defence minister, Michel Menassa said that Israel has carried out 3,500 air strikes since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire started on April 17.
The ceasefire was announced by the United States on April 16. Began just after midnight the next day.. Military activity has kept going, especially in southern Lebanon.
Menassa shared the numbers during a cabinet meeting. The data was later published on X by the office of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
There have been air strikes and a lot of destruction.
Between April 17 and June 7 Lebanese authorities recorded 3,491 air strikes across the country.
They also reported:
- 407 controlled demolitions
- Six “razing” operations
Officials said these demolitions have flattened villages in the southernmost border areas.
The Israeli military has not yet responded to requests for comment on these allegations.
Many people are being. The humanitarian situation is getting worse.
Lebanese officials say the renewed escalation has caused waves of displacement across the country.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam warned that the situation is putting a lot of strain on Lebanon’s ability to host families fleeing violence.
Since the conflict started on March 2 than 1 million people—around one-fifth of Lebanon’s population—have been displaced due to strikes and evacuation orders.
Fighting is still happening in the South.
With the ceasefire fighting has kept going in southern Lebanon between Israel and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.
Hezbollah has kept firing rockets into Israel and has rejected U.S.-mediated talks aimed at making the ceasefire last longer.
Officials say the group’s actions are linked to regional tensions involving Iran.
The conflict is spreading.
On Sunday Israel struck Beirut’s suburbs in response to Hezbollah rocket fire targeting northern Israel.
In news Iran carried out strikes on northern Israel and Israeli forces responded with actions on multiple sites in Iran.
This cycle of attacks has raised concerns that the conflict is getting bigger and spreading beyond Lebanon and Israel’s immediate border regions.
U.S. President Donald Trump commented week on ceasefires in the region saying they often involve “shooting in a more moderate manner” rather than a complete stop in fighting.
There is still a lot of pressure, for a stable and enforceable ceasefire arrangement.
