King Charles has explained that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will continue to be non‑working members of the royal family even after they have returned to the UK.
A letter sent on behalf of King Charles by the Lord Chamberlain, a Buckingham Palace official, says that Prince Harry and Meghan will not take part in official royal engagements and will remain treated as private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.
The letter was sent to Prince Harry’s team, government officials, authorities, and Lord Lieutenants, according to Palace sources.
HRH titles continue to remain unavailable
The couple will still not be allowed to use “HRH”. His and Her Royal Highness — Titles.
The explanation comes after Harry and Meghan were said to have gone to Britain with their kids, Archie and Lilibet, last month.
Their return caused questions about whether their return could mean a change in their connection with the monarchy or a return to roles.
The Palace’s letter shows that their position has not changed at all.
Harry and Meghan stopped being members of the royal family in 2020 and then moved to California. Since that time, they have worked on business projects and charity work while still being well-known in the royal family.
