Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has announced a plan to revive and upgrade the Pakistan Television (PTV) Drama and Film Academy, with the aim of providing young people with modern filmmaking and digital production expertise.
In a statement posted on X, Tarar revealed that he had chaired a meeting focused on restoring the academy “and giving it a new shape.”
He added that Pakistan would offer specialised colour-grading training locally for the first time, allowing aspiring professionals to develop this skill without having to travel overseas.
Tarar further stated, “In collaboration with the private sector, we will provide practical training to the youth in modern studios for films, dramas, and digital content; we will also partner with universities, and PTV’s revenue will increase.”
He expressed confidence in the initiative, saying he hoped the project would “prove to be a game-changer.”
The planned restoration of the PTV Drama and Film Academy comes as the film, television and digital media sectors are increasingly adopting advanced production methods, including colour grading, post-production and modern studio technologies.
Through the establishment of specialised training facilities in Pakistan and partnerships with private companies and universities, the initiative seeks to address the shortage of skilled professionals and equip a new generation with the expertise needed to pursue opportunities in the changing media industry.
