Pakistans disaster management people said on Sunday that it is possible that there will be flooding in parts of Pakistan. This is because there will be monsoon rains and this will make the rivers higher and increase the chance of flash floods until July 23.
The people in charge of dealing with disasters in Punjab said that the water in the Chenab, Jhelum and Ravi rivers will get higher. They also said that the small streams and rivers near these rivers will have more water too. They said this will happen between July 20 and July 24.
The Punjab disaster management people warned that the Chenab River at Marala will have a lot of water. They said that the Basantar Deg Aik, Palkhu, Bhimber, Halsi and Dora streams will also have a lot of water and this might cause flooding.
They also warned that the Rod Kohi hill torrents, in Dera Ghazi Khan might have a flash flood.
Strong Monsoon Spell Sets In
The National Disaster Management Authority said that the country is going to get a lot of rain because of a monsoon spell that starts on Sunday. This monsoon spell is expected to bring rainfall to many parts of the country until July 23. The National Disaster Management Authority thinks that this will increase the risk of flooding in rivers and also cause flash and urban flooding.
The National Disaster Management Authority is warning people about flooding at Marala on the Chenab River and in the areas near the Mangla Reservoir on the Jhelum River.
The National Disaster Management Authority is also saying that there could be flash flooding in streams in places like Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Bhimber and Muridke.
The National Disaster Management Authority thinks that heavy rainfall could cause flooding in hill areas like Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Murree and the Galiyat regions.
The National Disaster Management Authority said that the water level in the Kabul River and its smaller rivers will stay high. The National Disaster Management Authority thinks that this will cause a flood risk to areas near the river including places, like Panjkora, Swat and Chitral.
Risk of Urban Flooding
The Punjab PDMA is saying that Punjab PDMA thinks there can be flooding in some areas like Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar and Rawalpindi.
The people in charge of the province told the commissioners, the deputy commissioners, Rescue 1122 and other departments to get everything ready for emergencies. They told the officials to make sure they have fuel to get the flood relief camps ready and to move people and animals from areas, near the rivers if the Punjab PDMA says it is necessary.
Cloudburst Hits AJK
Separately, a cloudburst triggered flooding in the Kattha Piran stream near Neelum in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, inundating several houses and shops and sweeping away multiple vehicles, local authorities said.
The PDMA urged the public to follow official safety advisories and contact its emergency helpline in case of need.
