Ministries Exceed Their Allocated Budgets

The government looked into how federal ministries spent their money and found out that they spent Rs187 billion more than they were supposed to in the 2024-25 year.

This is a lot of money. It is a problem. The people who did the audit found some issues too. They found 78 cases where the government ministries did not have control over their money.

The auditor general said that in 82 cases the government needs to get the money that was spent incorrectly. The audit also found out that Rs87 billion of government money was not used and so it lapsed.

The government also moved Rs7.49 billion from the Federal Consolidated Fund to accounts in a way that was not right. The audit found that Rs24 billion was just sitting in accounts and was not put back into the government accounts like it was supposed to be. The government ministries spent this money. It is still, in these old accounts. The government needs to get this Rs24 billion.

Cases of Fake Payments and Embezzlement

The auditor generals report found payments and showed big problems with financial discipline in many departments.

It also told about two cases where people were accused of stealing a bit of government money. The report said it is worried about problems with the audit system.

Poor supervision led to the country losing a lot of money. The auditor generals report said weaknesses in the audit system happened because of poor oversight.

This poor oversight caused losses, to the national exchequer.

Measures Proposed for Greater Accountability

The auditor general said that the government should put all the money it does not use back into the treasury.

The report also said that the government needs to do a job of managing money in all its institutions and that it needs to make sure people are held accountable for what they do with the money so that everything is clear and honest and so that bad things do not happen again.

The auditor general made these suggestions even though the federal government has said times that it has stopped corruption and unnecessary spending but the audit showed that there are big differences between what the government says it will do and what it actually does with its money and this is a problem, for the government and its money the national treasury and the government funds.
