PM Shehbaz holds talks with global financial institutions in UK

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with executives from top global financial institutions in the United Kingdom on Tuesday. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif talked about Pakistan’s reforms, the investment climate, and the many opportunities in Pakistan’s financial sector.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Mohammad Kamal Syed, Head of Private Bank and Wealth Management UK at Barclays. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Barclays’ interest in Pakistan. Explained the government’s macroeconomic stabilisation measures. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif encouraged Barclays to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s financial sector.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met with a JPMorgan delegation led by Matthieu Wiltz, Co-CEO for EMEA. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed cooperation in capital markets, trade finance and investment banking. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited JPMorgan to grow its presence in Pakistan. The JPMorgan delegation said it remains very interested in debt capital markets and corporate banking opportunities.

The prime minister also met Citi officials who were led by David Livingstone, Chief Client Officer. He said things about the bank’s long-time presence in Pakistan and told the bank to grow its corporate and institutional banking services in the country.

During a meeting with BlackRock representatives Gordon Fraser and Sam Vecht, Co-Heads of Emerging Markets and Frontiers, and Emily Fletcher, Portfolio Manager and Research Analyst, the Prime Minister asked the firm to put money into Pakistani stocks and bonds under its frontier markets plan. Both sides said that steady policies are important for building trust among investors.

Discussions with Rothschild & Co who were represented by Lord Mark Sedwill, Chair of Geostrategic Advisory and Majid Ishaq, Head of UK Investment Banking talked about Pakistans geo- goals and possible help from the company in capital markets and investment plans.

Throughout the meetings, the executives who came from countries said they believe in the movement of economic reforms in Pakistan and promised their companies will work more closely with the financial sector in the country.

These meetings show more interest in Pakistan’s economic reform program from big international financial institutions and are part of the government’s bigger plan to build trust among investors and bring more money into the country.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Muhammad Ali were also at the meetings.
