LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the establishment of a 50-acre Punjab Film City, marking a significant step toward revitalizing the province’s film industry. The state-of-the-art project will be developed within Nawaz Sharif IT City and is being described as the country’s first fully integrated, end-to-end media production hub.

According to the Chief Minister, the initiative aims to align Pakistan’s film industry with modern global standards and equip it with advanced infrastructure. The film city will bring together facilities for film, television, animation, and digital media production under one roof, creating an enabling environment for both local and international productions.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that the project will include cutting-edge studios, sound stages, and post-production laboratories. It will also feature advanced visual effects (VFX) capabilities, significantly reducing reliance on foreign services and enabling local professionals to access high-quality technical resources within the country.

The development will offer diverse shooting environments, fully equipped sets, and a central lake to enhance production value. In addition, international-standard convention halls will be constructed to host global events, film festivals, and award ceremonies.

A key component of the project is the establishment of a media trade hub along with film and music schools aimed at nurturing emerging talent. These institutions are expected to play a vital role in training the next generation of creative professionals and strengthening the industry’s talent pipeline.
The Chief Minister described the project as a major milestone in promoting the creative economy, noting that it will generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. Furthermore, sectors such as animation, gaming, and digital media are expected to benefit significantly from this initiative.

She added that Punjab Film City will serve as a unified platform for talent, technology, and business, helping position Pakistan’s media and entertainment industry on the global stage.
The project will be completed in phases, with further details expected to be announced in the near future.
