Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including K-Electric customers, may face a hike of Rs2.56 per unit for one month following a request submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).
The CPPA has filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) seeking a monthly fuel price adjustment for September.
Nepra is scheduled to conduct a hearing on the application on October 29. If the proposed increase is approved, it will affect electricity consumers nationwide, including those served by K-Electric.
During September, electricity generated using high-speed diesel was the most expensive, costing Rs62 per unit. Power produced from furnace oil was priced at Rs44 per unit, while electricity generated through liquefied natural gas (LNG) cost Rs39 per unit.
In comparison, nuclear power generation cost Rs3 per unit, while hydropower was priced at Rs6 per unit.
