I was saddened to learn that Olu Jacobs, the Nigerian actor, died on Wednesday at the age of 84, and Olu Jacobs’ family issued a somber statement announcing his passing of Olu Jacobs.

I honor Olu Jacobs, whose true name is Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, and I remember that Olu Jacobs was called the “Lion of Lufodo” by his son and wife, Joke Silva.

The family statement added, saying, “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, the Lion of Lufodo.”

Olu Jacob’s wife and her bereaved son went on: “Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR). 11/07/1942 – 16/09/2026. We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

It is surprising to note that Olu Jacobs also turned 84 on July 11, 2026.

After receiving training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, Olu Jacobs went on to work on hundreds of films as well as international productions in the 1970s and 1980s.

In addition to performing, Olu Jacobs co‑founded the Lufodo Group with his wife, actress Joke Silva. Worked as a producer and stage director.

Ashanti, The Dogs of War, Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend, Pirates, Greatness, Smoke & Mirrors, League of Gentlemen, Bent Arrows, Sacred Lies, White Chapel, Adesuwa, Potomanto, The Antique, Bloody Ring, Oloibiri, Dry, One Fine Day and The Royal Hibiscus Hotel are a few of the twenty movies Olu Jacobs worked on.

Actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele lamented the passing of veteran actor Olu Jacobs as the news of Olu Jacobs’ passing spread, calling Olu Jacobs a true legend who fostered and nurtured fresh talent.

Funke Akindele, on her X handle, paid tribute, saying, “A true legend, a kind and gracious man who was always willing to support, encourage, and uplift talent. Your remarkable legacy and contribution to our industry will never be forgotten.”

Additionally, Akindele sent her sympathies to the film businessperson Jacob’s wife, Joke Silva, his kids, and the Jacobs family as a whole.

Oulu Jacob’s has not yet made an announcement regarding the legendary actor’s funeral.
