People in the parts of Iran have been unhappy with the government for a long time.. Now they are really mad at President Donald Trump because of the bombing by the United States this month. The bombing has turned their lives down.
The southern part of Iran is next to the Strait of Hormuz. This is where the United States has been attacking ports and places that make energy. They have also been attacking roads and other things that help people and goods move around. The United States says it is doing this to stop Iran from being a threat to ships in the Strait of Hormuz.. Iran says the United States is attacking more than just military targets.
Reuters talked to people who live in the south of Iran. Most of them said that the United States is attacking more than military targets. They are attacking places that do not have anything to do with the military. They are making life very hard for people in the south.
Amin is a man who runs a guest house in the south. He said that President Donald Trump has made life very difficult for him and his family. The United States bombing has made it hard for people to make money.
None of the people that Reuters talked to said that they want to protest against the government because of the fighting with the United States. They are just mad at President Donald Trump and the United States for bombing Iran. Iran and the people who live there are the ones who are suffering. President Donald Trump and the bombing are the reasons why people, in Iran’re so unhappy.
No Fresh Wave of Unrest in Southern Region
Amin said “I feel like I am suffocating”. He is really frustrated with the strikes and how they are affecting things. This helps explain why there are not problems in the provinces where people usually protest against the government. The war has not made things worse in these places. This is not what Trump wanted to happen when the war started.
Amin did not want his full name to be known because he is afraid of what might happen to him. This is the same with people from Iran who talked to Reuters.
Reza is 62 years old. He fought in the war between Iran and Iraq from 1988 to 1989. He said he would fight against the United States again if he had to.
He said “If my country needs me I will take up arms again not for this government but for Iran. I want to do this for the country I love. It is the least I can do for Iran”.
Reza is a teacher and he lives in Abadan in the Khuzestan province.
The people from the south who talked to Reuters had protested before.. None of them want to protest again right now. They do not think it is an idea to have more unrest, in Iran.
Region Is Home to Diverse Ethnic Minorities
Southern Iran has provinces like Hormozgan, Bushehr, Khuzestan and Sistan-Baluchistan. These provinces form a region that goes along a coastline from Iraq to Pakistan. This coastline is really humid and rugged.
Khuzestan is where a lot of people live. Sistan-Baluchistan is where the Balochi people live.. Hormozgan is where a lot of Sunni Muslims live.
People in these provinces have a lot of problems. They have most of Irans oil and gas.. They still do not have good things like investment and opportunities. They also do not have state services.
Hadi is a man who owns a grocery shop in Khuzestan. He said the attacks from the US have made things worse. He said when there is no electricity for hours they also do not have water for hours.. It is really hot.
Hadi loves Iran. He wants the war to stop. He said this because he thinks it is enough.
The people in charge say they do not treat any group badly. They say they do not care if someone is from a region or if they have a different religion.
Majid is an engineer who lives in Konarak. He is 41 years old. He said the war has made people scared. His town already had a lot of problems. Now they have explosions at night and heat during the day. They also have power cuts. They are scared they will not have water.
When there are power cuts it’s really bad. This is because it is really hot and people need air conditioning. They also need water. The water pumps need electricity.
Samad is a student, in Bushehr. Bushehr has a nuclear power plant. Samad said he cannot focus on his studies. This is because there are attacks every night.
