US–Iran Draft 14-Point Deal Proposes Ceasefire – Details Here

-

The United States and Iran are working on a deal to end their fighting. They have a 14-point plan that they hope will work. This plan is called a memorandum of understanding. It has goals like opening up important waterways making it easier for Iran to do business with other countries and starting to work towards a lasting peace.

This plan is not public yet. Someone, from the United States government shared it with CNN. Other people who are involved in the talks also said it is real.

The United States and Iran will probably sign the version of this plan in Switzerland soon.. First they have to make sure all the details are correct.

Someone who speaks for the White House said that this plan is not the version. They said it is a draft and things can still change. They called it a working document, which means it is still being worked on.

Steps Toward Ceasefire and De-escalation

Under the draft both countries would say they will stop fighting now and forever and they will not try to hurt each other.

The document also says that both countries should respect each others freedom to make their decisions and not try to take over each others land and they should promise not to get involved in what the other country is doing.

There is a time limit of 60 days to work out all the details of the agreement. If both countries agree they can take more time to talk things over and come to a final comprehensive agreement about the countries and the peace, between the countries.

Strait of Hormuz and Efforts to Reduce Military Tensions

The Strait of Hormuz is really important. One of the main things that will happen is that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened and things will get back to normal.

The United States will remove restrictions and take their forces out of the areas, around the Strait of Hormuz slowly once everything is agreed upon. At the time Iran will make sure that merchant ships can sail through the Strait of Hormuz again and they will fix any technical problems that are affecting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Sanctions Easing and Economic Measures

The draft plan suggests economic help for Iran like:

  • Removing US sanctions step by step
  • Allowing Iran to export oil and petrochemicals without restrictions
  • Freezing or unlocking money that is stuck
  • Possibly getting access to a $300 billion fund for development if Iran follows the rules

This deal also thinks about a bigger plan to rebuild and develop the economy with the US and other countries, in the region working together to help Iran.

The plan wants to give Iran relief and help them get back on track with US and regional partners supporting Iran and giving Iran economic help.

Nuclear Obligations

Iran says in the draft that it does not want to make weapons.

Iran will never try to develop weapons.

There are some issues that Iran and the other side have not agreed on yet like what to do with the enriched material and what Iran needs for its program.

Both sides agree that they will talk about these issues and try to find a solution when they make the agreement.

For now Iran will keep its program the way it is.

The United States will not impose sanctions on Iran or send more troops to the area.

The United States will refrain from imposing sanctions on Iran and will not escalate its military presence.

The document also talks about how they will make sure everyone is following the rules.

They want to make sure everything is working towards a deal.

The document proposes a way to check if everyone is doing what they said they would do.

When they have an agreement they will take it to the United Nations and ask them to approve it.

A final agreement would be submitted to the United Nations for approval.

Some people are saying that the draft that was leaked may not be the version.

Some governments do not agree with some of the things in the draft.

Officials are saying that the leaked text may not have the words as the final version.

The United States is calling this draft a plan.

Iranian media is also saying that the leaked versions are not accurate.

The United States has described the memorandum as a political framework.

Iranian media reports have also questioned the accuracy of the leaked versions.

Even though there is some uncertainty the draft is a step in the diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

The draft shows that Iran and the United States are trying to work things out.

The draft signals one of the significant diplomatic efforts in recent years, between Washington and Tehran.
