US Envoy Says Pak-US Direct Flights Likely to Resume Soon

The US Chargé d’Affaires to Pakistan Natalie A. Baker thinks that direct commercial flights between Pakistan and the United States will start again soon. She believes that when flights start again it will be good for tourism, education, business and people talking to each other.

Natalie A. Baker was talking on the Pakistan Observer podcast. She said that she really hopes direct flights between Pakistan and the United States will start again soon.

Natalie A. Baker also said that when flights start again it will help a lot of students, researchers, tourists and professionals travel between the two countries. This will make the relationship between Pakistan and the United States even stronger. Pakistan and the United States will benefit from this. Direct commercial flights between Pakistan and the United States are very important, for both countries.

Flights Have Remained Suspended Since 2020

Direct flights between Pakistan and the United States have been stopped since 2020. This happened after a crash in Karachi. A Pakistan International Airlines plane, an Airbus A320 went down. Almost 100 people died.

People looked into what happened. They said it was because of mistakes made by the pilots and the people who control the air traffic. There were also questions about whether some of the pilots who work for Pakistan International Airlines had the right licences to fly. Because of this there were rules put in place to restrict flights.

The United Kingdom and the European Union said it was okay for Pakistan International Airlines to fly again year.. The United States still says no the ban on Pakistan International Airlines flights is still, in place.

Pakistan Pushes for the Resumption of Services

Pakistan is really trying to get direct air services started again.

They want to make it easier for people to travel. In May the Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi talked to the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapoor in Islamabad. Mohsin Naqvi told Paul Kapoor that Pakistan really wants to see direct flights start up again soon, as possible. Pakistan wants direct air services to resume quickly.
