Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Junaid Akbar said on Sunday that the party will turn Islamabad into ‘ruins’ during its planned march on the capital.
Addressing a workers’ convention, Junaid Akbar said, “We will pick up the bodies and then new people will come,” while speaking about the planned march. He said that the PTI would ‘destroy Islamabad’ during the march.
The remarks have raised questions over the law. Order situation ahead of the PTI’s planned September 27 protest. The government and law enforcement agencies are keeping a watch on the situation. PTI has announced the 27 September march, while the government has said it will take measures to prevent disruption in the capital.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar criticized Junaid Akbar’s remarks, saying the PTI leadership did not believe in protest. Tarar said the PTI’s intentions were to create “anarchy and destruction”. He said the government was responsible for protecting the lives and property of the people.
He termed the PTI’s protest call as illegal. Said the government would not allow roads to be blocked or normal life to be disrupted.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also criticised Akbar’s remarks in a post on X.
Chaudhry said Junaid Akbar should remember that Islamabad did not belong to any party. He said the capital represented 250 million Pakistanis, adding that the PTI’s politics and rule had left Khyber Pakhtunkhwa facing unrest, poor administration and political disorder.
Chaudhry said threatening to turn Islamabad into ‘Somnath’ was not acceptable.
He added that political differences were part of democracy, but threats to turn the capital into a battlefield were neither politics nor in the public interest.
Chaudhry urged the PTI to focus on the problems faced by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instead of talking about damaging Islamabad.
