National cricketer Mohammad Rizwan has responded to the questionnaire from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). In his response, he questioned why the inquiry was being made against him and asked for details about the allegations.
Rizwan said he had not been told which gambling event he was connected to. He also said that the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit is the body responsible for handling any corruption issues involving cricketers.
“As a cricketer, I have served the Pakistan team to the best of my ability ” Rizwan said in his written reply.
He added that he had still not been informed about the online gambling incident he was linked to. He also said no information was provided about what role he was supposed to have played in it.
In his response, Rizwan stated that he had repeatedly asked for details about the allegations during his meeting with the agency. He said that the necessary information was not shared despite his repeated requests.
Questions about NCCIA’s jurisdiction
Rizwan said that the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit is the place to handle corruption allegations against cricketers.
Despite being an active cricketer, Rizwan said that the allegations against Rizwan were not reported to the ICC’s Anti‑Corruption Unit.
Rizwan asked why the NCCIA was conducting an inquiry into this matter, saying that investigating complaints belongs to the ICC’s Anti‑Corruption Unit.
Rizwan said that it is incomprehensible why the NCCIA is conducting an inquiry into this case.
Matter Referred to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit
Rizwan further stated that he should be provided with details of the allegations against Rizwan so that Rizwan could properly participate in the inquiry.
“I should be provided with details of the allegations against me so that I can participate in the inquiry ” he said.
Concluding Rizwan’s response, Rizwan maintained that if there were any allegations against Rizwan, the matter should immediately be referred to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
