IMF Condition Doubles Climate Levy on Petrol and Diesel

-

The government has done another thing that the International Monetary Fund wanted by raising the money for climate help from petrol and diesel by a lot and at the same time they lowered another type of levy so that fuel prices stay the same.

The extra money for climate help from petrol and diesel went up from two and a half rupees to five rupees per litre. These new rates for the levy started on July 1.

The government reduced the levy on petrol and diesel to make sure the increase, in climate help money does not change fuel prices.

Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged Across the Country

Officials said that petrol prices and diesel prices are staying the same. This is because they made some changes to the rates of two taxes.

The tax on petrol is now a little lower. It used to be Rs66.66 per litre. Now it is Rs64.14 per litre. The tax on diesel is also lower. It used to be Rs79.97 per litre. Now it is Rs70.4, per litre.

They made these changes to petrol taxes and diesel taxes to balance out the climate support tax. Petrol prices and diesel prices are not changing because of these tax changes.

Sherry Rehman Expresses Serious Concerns

PPP leader Sherry Rehman is really upset about the increase in the climate support levy. She wants to know where all the money from the climate support levy is going.

Sherry Rehman thinks the climate support levy should be separate from the petroleum levy and people should be able to see how it is being used. She believes that every single rupee that is collected for the climate support levy should only be used for things that help the environment.

The climate support levy is very important because glaciers are melting fast and there is a bigger risk of floods. So we really need to use the climate support levy money in a way.

Sherry Rehman says the climate support levy should not just be about collecting money it should also be, about protecting the environment and the climate support levy should be used for that.

Sherry Says the Public Should See Real Benefits

Sherry Rehman said that the people are paying money so the government should show the people what they are getting in return. Sherry Rehman thinks the government should tell the people how the extra money is being used and which projects are being paid for with this extra money.

Sherry Rehman also wants the government to check and watch how the money is being spent to help with problems, like pollution and dirty air. Sherry Rehman believes this should be done on a basis.

Separate System Proposed for Climate Funding

Rehman said that the governments policy is not good. The government is reducing the money, for the environment. They are increasing the climate levy at the same time. This does not make sense.

She wants the government to make a system that is easy to understand. This system should be used to collect and spend the money from the climate support levy.
