Following the PIMS tragedy, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed the administration and all government hospitals to carry out fire safety audits and submit their reports within 24 hours.
The chief minister has issued instructions to reassess fire safety measures in all hospitals across Punjab.
In a letter, she directed the concerned authorities to ensure that there is no compromise on fire safety in hospitals.
As per the Chief Minister’s directives, all Deputy Commissioners must review the availability and working condition of fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment at teaching hospitals, District Headquarters Hospitals, Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals, Maryam Nawaz Hospitals and Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics in their districts.
The inspection will also look at whether emergency exit routes are available and if the staff is ready to handle emergency situations after talking to Rescue 1122 teams.
According to the instructions, a full report with details from all districts will be given to the Chief Minister by August 27. All Divisional Commissioners will be in charge of the work to make sure the first steps are done within one week.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also told all hospital administrations to finish fire safety checks right away and send their reports within 24 hours.
She said that there must be no carelessness or mistakes when it comes to keeping patients, especially newborn babies and other patients who are at higher risk.
