Least 15 people, including 14 security personnel were killed in a terrorist attack on a joint police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwas Tank district early Friday the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the militarys media wing terrorists from Fitna-al-Khawarij tried to attack the checkpost. Were quickly and effectively stopped by security forces, who prevented the attack.
ISPR said troops started a counter-operation and killed 12 terrorists while chasing the attackers who ran away.
The military said the attackers later drove an explosive-filled vehicle into the checkposts wall causing an explosion that damaged the facility badly.
The explosion killed 12 personnel, two police officials and one Forest Department official, who gave their lives while doing their job.
A cleaning operation is being done to get rid of any remaining terrorists in the area.
ISPR said that Pakistans counterterrorism efforts under the Azm-i-Istehkam plan approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan will continue with strength to stop foreign-backed terrorism.
“The sacrifices of our soldiers make us more determined than ever to protect the country no matter what ” the militarys media wing said.
The attack happened during counterterrorism activities across the country. Month one soldier was killed and 14 terrorists linked to Fitna al Hindustan were killed during a planned operation in Balochistans Basima area.
Pakistan has seen an increase in violent attacks in recent years. According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) Annual Security Report 2025 deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa went up from 1,620, in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
